Losing your PAN card can be a difficult experience. In fact, losing any important document including government identification proof can bring lots of trouble. But, you need not panic in case you have misplaced your PAN card. The Income Tax Department working under Central Board of Direct Taxes has made the process of reapplying for a PAN card quite easier. It is very simple to reapply for a new PAN card. If you are under any misconception that applying and receiving PAN is a long drawn process than it is not at all true. All thanks to the Income Tax department, reapplication of PAN has been made a very simple process for Indian citizens.

To explain the details, the first step that one needs to take in case of a lost PAN card is to notify the police. FIR should be registered at police station that won’t take much of your time. Once you have the FIR receipt in your hand, you need to write a letter requesting the issue of a duplicate PAN card. This will ensure that you will not fall victim to someone who is misusing your lost PAN card. This will also save you from any sort of unnecessary trouble arising out of misplaced PAN card. The next involves filling in a correction form or a change request form.

You can get a hard copy of PAN correction form from any of the branches of UTITSL or NSDL. However, easier way would be to simply download the form from the websites of UTI Technology Services Ltd (UTITSL), National Securities Depository Ltd (NSDL), or the I-T department. The next step is of filling out the lost PAN card information. But if you don’t remember your PAN detail then you can always take the help of ‘‘https://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/knowpan/knowpan.jsp”. You will require filling your name, surname, date of birth and you will get your lost card number.

The last step is of attaching your stamp sized photographs. You will need to pay Rs.94/- as fee. Next, find the address of UTITSL and NSDL branches in your location and submit your form at PAN application centres. At max, it will take you 15-20 working days to get your new PAN card at your doorsteps.
